Communication

Communications is a vital component of Heart of Mersey (HoM), whose principal aim is to engage key decision makers and advocate change at a strategic level.

Working closely with the local, regional and national media, the Corporate Communications Manager continues to raise the profile of HoM, highlighting its aims and achievements to professionals and lay people alike through HoM's Communications Strategy.

Communicating health messages effectively is an on-going challenge. The media is constantly being drip fed facts and figures from many countless sources, all competing for column inches and airtime.

The communications department is also responsible for a number of high profile social marketing campaigns. These involve promoting key health messages to the general public on, for example, the impact of poor diet or smoking on health. Often these messages are hard-hitting and, given the state of our health in Merseyside, they need to be.  See the Food & Health pages on this website for our latest campaign.

Communications also involves promoting a number of strategic documents produced by HoM's other programme managers - documents like The Greater Merseyside Food and Health Strategy, which aims to tackle food related issues on a large scale, and The Greater Merseyside Food Charter, launched in October 2004 with a pledge to increase access to nutritious, affordable and safe food.
