Want to be more active but feel you need a kick-start? Now's your chance.  Below are a few suggestions to help you on your way.  If you've not been physically active for some time check with your GP beforehand.

  • Start walking - regular brisk walking can help body and mind
  • Use the stairs instead of the lift or escalator.
  • Taking the bus? Get off one or two stops before your destination and
walk the rest of the way.
  • Most car journeys are made within a short distance of home - so leave the car and walk or cycle.
  • Haven't you always wanted to take up a sport? Now's the time to do it.
  • Walk the dog or walk the children to school - it's good for them and you.
  • Swimming is great for the heart.
  • As you improve your general stamina you can increase your level of activity.
  • Dust down the bikes and take your family on an organised cycle ride in
    your area.
  • You're never too old to start. 'Safe chair' exercising is helping lots of older people to stay active.
