Snack Right

The Snack Right campaign got off to a great start this summer with 600 families taking part in 'Healthy Snacking' events across Cheshire and Merseyside.

Snack Right is a targeted intervention for the parents and carers of pre-school children from deprived neighbourhoods, devised by CHAMPS Public Health Network Social Marketing Group. Snack Right uses social marketing principles and techniques to influence snacking behaviour.

The project's simple message to parents and carers is each day replace at least one unhealthy snack in your child's diet with a healthy one, with an emphasis on sustaining the Snack Right message beyond the events and into the home.

Snack Right is underpinned by a cartoon group of fruit and vegetables, the Snack Right 5, Narna the banana, Berry the strawberry, Pip the apple, Topper the carrot and Tiny the grape, who feature in posters, a story book, table mats, games, sticker charts and a branded children's fruit bowl.

Since the launch of the Snack Right campaign, events and activities have been running throughout 2009 in western Cheshire at Children' Centres and in other community settings
